WAMA Wild by John Tiddy: Book and Exhibition Launch

John Tiddy

17 October 2026 — 31 March 2027

For more than ten years, WAMA volunteer John Tiddy has photographed the creatures, plants and fungi that call the WAMA site home. His fieldwork has culminated in a new book, WAMA Wild. Published by WAMA Foundation, the book celebrates the natural heritage of the 16-hectare site through rarely seen images of Krefft's gliders, breeding white-faced herons, turtles basking on fallen logs and terrestrial orchids flowering throughout the protected bushland. Creating this collection required immense patience, long nights in hides and specialist equipment, including thermal-imaging scopes, trail cameras, remote triggers and focus stacking. Together, the photographs offer an intimate view of the wildlife that thrives at WAMA.

The book documents a broader story of ecological recovery. Since the installation of a vermin-proof fence and the removal of deer and rabbits, native vegetation has steadily regenerated. Projects such as the Endemic Botanic Garden and Jallukar grasslands continue to support this renewal.

A selection of photographs from the book will feature in an accompanying exhibition in WAMA's Multi-purpose Room (MPR) running until March 2027.

Please join us in the MPR on Saturday 17th October at 1pm to celebrate the launch of John's book and photography exhibition. John will speak about the creation of the book and the evolution of the WAMA site over the last decade.
