WAMA celebrates and deepens our connection with nature. Set in Halls Gap/ Budja Budja, the heart of Djab Wurrung and Jardwadjali lands with thanks to the Traditional Custodians, the 16 hectares precinct offers native gardens, wetlands and bushland, as well as a modern Centre designed by Jan van Schaik of MvS Architects.

WAMA opened in July 2025 and will grow to be a vibrant environmental precinct – a place to learn, create, and reflect. As Australia’s first precinct dedicated to art, science and the environment, WAMA brings to life the region’s first endemic garden, dedicated space for environmental art, and engagement program.

The precinct offers tours, exhibitions, workshops, and interactive programs – a new way to experience Australia’s unique landscape through creativity, curiosity, and care for the environment. WAMA aims to inspire visitors to experience our environment first-hand and engage with the natural world in unexpected ways.

The WAMA Foundation is set on 16-hectare site that encompasses the Grampians/Gariwerd Endemic Botanic Garden, the Jallukar Native Grasslands, ephemeral wetlands, and outdoor artworks. This living sanctuary features around 70 plant species found nowhere else on earth. This diverse setting – spanning 16 hectares of gardens, wetlands and bushland – is home to birds, insects, and native animals, and has already become home for rare and endangered species.

The establishing gardens and surrounding landscape form a vital habitat for native wildlife, even more essential after the recent bushfires damaged so much of the region. Visitors can see a unique variety of birds, butterflies, insects, and native animals, with the site already supporting a growing number of rare and endangered species.
